STATELINE (WIFR) -- Even though it's a little more than two weeks until election day, it seems more people are voting ahead of time.

Kris Walters cast her ballot today because she is just fed up with the whole campaign process.

“I get a little tired by the time Election Day really rolls around, of the negative campaigning and the robocalls and that whole situation. So it's like now I can say 'Hey, I'm done, I'm over it. Leave me alone,'" said Kris Walters.

Walters is one of hundreds that cast their ballot on the first day of early voting. For some, they've been voting ahead of time for years.

"I used to travel in business so I never knew if I was going to be out of town on election day. So, it was always good to go vote early and know that you got it done," said Steve Kass.

For others, this is their first time voting before the November 6th deadline.

"If you vote early then you can be helpful in other ways coming up to the election. Because no matter who you support or what your position is you're going to want to make sure people are getting out and doing their civic duty to vote," said voter Paul Nolley.

Both Winnebago County political party chairmen say they've been encouraging voters to get out early to beat the election day crowd.

Just about all counties in our area report an increase in early and absentee voters. The only one to report turnout being about the same as 2008 is Boone County
