FREEPORT (WIFR) -- An age-old holy day is getting a twenty-first century twist here in the Stateline.
Grace Episcopal Church of Freeport offered Ash Wednesday services for those on the go. For a couple hours today parishioners could drive up to the church for a traditional blessing of ashes and spend a few seconds with a reverend all from the comfort of the driver's seat. One of the reverends we spoke with tells us they're happy to offer the service.
Rev. Mary Shore said, "Hey church can fit into what your schedule is , it's not necessarily a ridged schedule. We are trying to be able to do things so that when you are able to come we'll welcome you with open arms no matter what."
Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten season: it reminds worshippers to enter the season with an attitude of reflection and piety.
