Volunteers Hope to Spruce Up Memorial Garden for Belvidere North Cheerleaders

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Local volunteers are trying to spruce up a memorial dedicated to the two Belvidere North High School cheerleaders killed in a car accident last year.

A heart shaped garden located near the school’s student entrance was created in honor of Brenda Gutierrez and Thalia Arredondo. Last school year, students planted flowers in the girl's names; however, the bulbs didn't quite bloom. Volunteers are trying to brighten the area; they’ve taken in some plant and flower donations but say they could use more perennials. Organizers say they're looking forward to what the garden will look like in the future.

If you would like to donate to the memorial, call (815) 547-3884
