Dixon's new auditor, Wipfli LLC, says the city is $2.7 million in the black, after completing an audit for May 1, 2011 to April 20, 2012.

The rebound, the city says, is because it's bringing in more money than it's spending - not because of money stolen by ousted Comptroller Rita Crundwell.

CPA Rory Sohn told city council on Jan. 7 that he anticipates the city will recoup $8.5-$9 million from the sale of Crundwell's assets, but there's no timeline yet for when they will get the money or how much it will be.

The FBI says it should have a better figure by Feb. 14th, the day Crundwell is set to be sentenced in federal court.

The FBI carted away most of the city's financial records when Crundwell was arrested. The city's new auditors say that made things more difficult in terms of piecing together the current financial picture.
