FREEPORT (WIFR) – Mayor Jim Gitz, former Mayor George Gaulrapp and the city council were on hand for the dedication of the new Freeport Central Fire Station.
For more than 50 years, the building was used as the central public works facility for Stephenson County. Winter construction bought the building last year before beginning renovations four months ago. Renovations were $1.2 million dollars.
“We have a much quicker response time from this location than we did previously where we were at before, but we still have a good response time to that retail district where we can still respond to that location.
The Freeport Police Department will also use the building as an auxiliary site.
