Daley Files to Run for Illinois Governor

(WIFR) - Former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley will challenge current Illinois governor Pat Quinn in the 2014 primary for Illinois governor.

Daley says in a press release that after the legislature's failure to pass major bills in the spring session, he wants to see current governor Pat Quinn out of office.

"The people of Illinois are paying a perilous price for political failure," said Daley in a press release. "We need solutions. We need action... and the people of Illinois can't wait."

The "we can't wait" campaign may sound familiar -- it's the same slogan used when President Barack Obama took executive action when Congress failed to produce legislation while Daley was chief of staff.

Venture capitalist Bruce Rauner and Illinois treasurer Dan Rutherford have also filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections to run for Illinois governor as Republicans.
