Craig High School Earns Jostens National Yearbook Design Recognition

JANESVILLE (WIFR) -- Janesville Craig High School’s yearbook, The PHOENIX, has been recognized for excellence and featured in the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 11, celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage. Jostens Look Book is a collection of spreads and photos from outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, storytelling copy and action-packed photography. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.

The PHOENIX was created by Editors- in-Chief Maggie Eckert and Shelby Larson; Assistant Editor-In-Chief Hayley Hughes; Seniors Editors: Miranda Weber, Karina Triller, Kadee Russell, McKenzie Larson; Juniors Editors Kate Heaps and Meghan Hulen; Sophomores Editors Maddie Schroeder and Carmen Rick; Freshmen Editor Haleigh Salemi; Organizations Editors: Katie Gereats, Sarah Jones, Sam Bomkamp, Abigail Fritzinger; Sports Editors: Becky Schneider, Haley Bayreuther, Regan Sitorius, Kylie Clark; Academics Editors Lexie Thornton and Nick Schieldt; Photographers: Janie Swingle, Kira Weir, Gabby Harwick, Tatiana March, Carly Kjornes, Nicki Armi, Hanna Rudkin, and Photoshop Editor and Designer Wyatt Tinder. The 2012 PHOENIX was completed under the direction of yearbook adviser Mrs. Kristin Elsbernd.

“I am so proud of this group of students and the accomplishment of being included as a trend-setting yearbook in this year’s Look Book. Yearbook students often work behind-the-scenes to showcase the school, and their hard work is not often understood by the rest of their classmates when they peruse the yearbook. In particular, Wyatt Tinder, who designed the opening spread included in the Look Book, deserves special recognition for his passion and eye for design,” commented yearbook adviser, Mrs. Kristin Elsbernd.
Craig High School’s PHOENIX was one of only 425 yearbooks selected from approximately 3,000. In addition, it was one of only ten schools from Wisconsin featured in this national publication. The 2013 panel of judges, comprised of nationally recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers, selected the best examples of yearbook spread and covers to make up the 352 page Look Book.

The 2012 PHOENIX staff also received First Place Award from the American Scholastic Press Association for and won a special sections award for “Best Division Pages” from the American Scholastic Press Association this year.
