Cozi Pedicab Celebrates One-Year

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – There’s an ongoing effort to get more businesses to invest downtown. Here’s one company that’s on the move, literally. It’s called Cozi Pedicab and transporting passengers is easier said than done.

“People see me go by and say this is great, Rockford needs something like this.”

Cole Walston’s job requires a whole lot of leg work, literally as he pedals a three seat bike up and down hills in the heart of the city.

“I love what I do, it’s a way to stay in shape and exercise and at the same time make some money.”

It’s called Cozi Pedicab, it’s a business that uses endurance in place of fuel to transport people across downtown Rockford.

“The hardest part is going up hills with potholes, other than that I’s great.”

While riders tour East Street, they also have access to the world wide web with free Wi-Fi. Walston says he makes most of his money through advertising, calling himself a moving billboard. He’s now fundraising to bring in two new bikes to hold more people.

“About 75% of our business is family and friends and we want to be able to accommodate them.”

The bike can hold up to 700 pounds and takes coordination to steer. Walston says he pushes through the sweat and fatigue to keep his customers and his business going.

Cozi Pedicab is celebrating its first anniversary this summer.

The average fare is $3-$5 and rides for senior citizens are free.
