ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Hundreds of gun supporters now have new ammo when it comes to their fight to legalize concealed carry in Illinois.
The group's strategy is to show strength in numbers by working together to change the law in Springfield. Around 200 people attended Wednesday night's town hall meeting at Giovanni's. The event was hosted by IllinoisCarry.com which lives by the slogan.. "49 States Cannot Be Wrong".
Right now, Illinois is the only state that does not allow residents to carry a firearm in public. Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato says he supports the measure saying it could improve the Stateline's crime rate.
"I think it's important because the State's Attorney's Office is in charge of prosecuting crimes, we want to make this community safer and I want every tool at my disposal. I think it has shown in the other 49 states and that impact s driving crime down," Bruscato said.
Some against concealed carry say it's just too dangerous to legalize in our area, in fact Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he will veto the measure if the bill ever makes his desk. Despite his words, the move is gaining a lot of support from leaders in our community.

Richard, while I respect your opinion look at the other 49 states that allow some form of carry. There aren't shootouts over parking spaces or bumped shopping carts. As for me I would much rather deal with some idiot driving like he's 12 years old and potentially armed than having to go every day without knowing that I could completely protect myself and my family outside of our home. There are idiots everywhere and always where you least expect them, I just want the opportunity to not have to rely on anyone else (police not trying to be disrespectful) for my families safety.

Although the topic is ccw and some use the term self-defense I use the term Personal safety. At work I wear safety glasses and hearing protection for personal safety. I wear my seat belt for the same reason tho I hope I never need it. it is there always but only needed in case of a crash. I feel that carrying a firearm is just another piece of my Personal Protective Equipment for my personal safety. Why would a Gov. veto a bill that would help insure my personal safety? Veto YEP veto the Governor vote Republican.
