Child Killed in Alcohol-Fueled Crash in Green County

GREEN COUNTY, WI (WIFR) -- A Monroe man is accused of driving drunk and causing an accident that killed a child.

21-year-old Trevor McGuire was heading west in a pick-up truck on State Highway 59 at Broughton Road after 5:30 p.m. Monday. According to the Green County Sheriff's Office, he crossed the centerline and hit a mini-van.

The driver of the mini-van, 35-year-old Matthew Iverson, was taken via helicopter to UW Hospital for life-threatening injuries. He had three children aged 13, 10 and 7 in his vehicle. The 10-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the crash.

McGuire was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. He had a passenger with minor injuries who refused medical treatment.

According to investigation, McGuire had been drinking before the crash. He was arrested and taken to jail after getting out of the hospital. He is being charged with reckless driving and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
