ROCHELLE (WIFR) – It was a scene out of the 19th century today in Rochelle.
The Sons of Veterans of the Civil War, John A. Logan Camp 26 from Rockford reenacted an 1899 dedication ceremony for a Civil War era Costal Cannon outside Rochelle’s Flagg Township Museum this afternoon. The memorabilia was recently repainted by the group.
Terry Dyer says his great-great uncle fought in the Civil War. He says it’s his passion to honor the veterans.
Dyer says he and his group go all around the region preserving the gravesites and monuments of those who served in America’s deadliest war.
