Byron Homeowners Face Flood Damage as Rock River Keeps Rising

BYRON (WIFR) -- The heavy rains have many Byron homes along the Rock River in danger of flood damage. The people living there are preparing for what could be a rough weekend.

It isn't hard to see the rising water levels when driving along North River Road in Byron. Homes along that road usually have backyards between them and river, but tonight most of them are right on the edge.

Entering Byron from the east, you will likely see a portion of Kysor Drive almost completely submerged in water.

Bike paths along the river are under many feet of water tonight and it could get much worse this weekend.

Janet Blumeyer lives right off of River Road and says her family is preparing for the worst.

“We’re hoping for the wet rain not to come,” says Blumeyer. “We probably will get water in the basement. Our water heater and our furnace is what we’re hoping we do not lose.”

The water is already reaching Blumeyer’s backyard. Her family bought their home last fall and she says they had no idea they would face something like this so soon.

Experts say the Rock River could reach record high levels by Saturday.
