ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Bishop David Malloy said today he was not surprised that Time Magazine would select Pope Francis as its 2013 Person of the Year.
This is Bishop Malloy’s full statement:
“It is really no surprise that Pope Francis has been chosen Time’s Person of the Year. Pope Francis proved his universal appeal from the time he stepped onto the balcony at St. Peter to meet the world for the first time as the newest shepherd of the Catholic Church.
“The Pope’s actions of reaching out to others, whether it be through Twitter, his daily homilies or with a simple embrace, have resonated so positively with Catholics and non-Catholics alike. He gives powerful example for reawakening all people to Christ’s simple message of faith, hope, charity and love.”
