MCLEAN COUNTY (WIFR) -- Another hurdle has been cleared in Alan Beaman’s fight for innocence.
McLean County prosecutors announced they’ll no longer challenge Beaman’s efforts to receive a certificate of innocence. That certificate completely clears Beaman’s name and automatically nets him $170,000. His attorney says they’re unsure exactly what happens next.
Beaman was released from prison in 2008 after wrongfully serving 13 years for the 1993 murder of his ex-girlfirend. Last summer, new DNA testing proved he wasn’t the killer.
