Beu Running for Boone County Sheriff

BOONE COUNTY (WIFR) -- After more than 35 years there will soon be a new sheriff in Boone County. And a life long resident and law enforcement vet wants the job.

Phil Beu announced his candidacy Tuesday morning outside the Boone County Courthouse. Beu spent more than 32 years at the Boone County Sheriff's Department, working up the ranks until he retired in 2010 as Lieutenant of Operations. He currently works as a security guard.

Beu says if elected he will continue the work of outgoing Sheriff Duane Wirth, make some budget cuts and build a better relationship with the Belvidere Police Department.

"We're unique we only have two police departments in Boone County and being so close we both have resources that the other ones need, some resources they don't have and it's be really nice to combined and make it a lot better for the community for the citizens of Boone County," Beu said.

Last month, David Ernest announced his candidacy for Boone County Sheriff.
