ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- With the holiday season in full swing it can be hard to stay on track when it comes to our diets.
Dietitian Emillie Fielder says even when we think we're eating healthy that may not be the case.
We're now on week five of Rockford Memorial Hospital's Better U Challenge. Where five women are working together to improve their hearts, by managing their weight and exercising more. Wednesday night the group learned about what items should be in our grocery carts.
Fielder says to shop the perimeter of the store, never shop when we're hungry, and don't buy food with more than five ingredients.
"Grocery stores are kind designed like a casino where they want to draw you in, marketers spend a whole lot of money about how people like to shop and buy things and not health things, " Fielder said.
A recent study says when use red plates we tend to eat less.
