Winnebago County 2011 Christmas Assistance Registration

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Registration for individuals and families needing Christmas Assistance from The Salvation Army’s Food for the Needy and Toy House programs will be held at The Salvation Army Christmas Headquarters, 1515 E Riverside Blvd., Loves Park, IL beginning Monday, November 28 through Friday, December 2, 2011. This is the former Sears Essentials building and is a new location for registration. Hours will be 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily with extended hours on December 1st from 4-6 p.m. Winnebago County residents wishing to register for assistance will need to bring the following at the time of registration:

1. State ID or Driver’s License for each adult in the household
2. Medical card or birth certificates for each child in the household
3. Proof of address
This location is accessible by RMTD bus service.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Some Stateliners are worried about making ends meet as the holiday season rolls around.

A local charity is getting ready to help out. Belvidere's Salvation Army will start taking applications for their Christmas assistance program on Thursday and Friday. Needy families will be able to apply for baskets of toys and food. Organizers say they expect more people than normal this year. Applications start on November 28th in Winnebago County.

Sign up will be Nov. 28-Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours on Dec 1 it will go until 6 p.m at the Salvation Army Christmas Center @ 1515 E riverside Blvd. in Loves Park.

The pick-up location has not yet been decided.

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- You can apply for Christmas Assistance at the Belvidere Salvation Army on Thursday Nov. 3 and Friday Nov. 4 from 9-11:00 a.m. and 1-3:00 pm.

If you're looking to donate, bring in toys that are new and unwrapped for kids ages 0 to 12. Additionally, they are low on meats and holiday food and accept monetary donations. All donations will stay in county.

You can donate between 9-11:45 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The pickup schedule is as follows:

Applications will not be taken without the following information--no exceptions:

1. Identification for all household members (everyone living at the residence).

The applying individual must have a current Illinois Photo Driver's License, ID Card, or Mexican Consulate Photo ID. Expired cards will not be accepted.

Other adult household members must have a current ID. Children must have a birth certificate or current public aid medical card. Expired cards will not be accepted.

Social Security Cards are not considered proof of ID.

2. Proof of all household gross income for the last four weeks.

this includes social security checks, check stubs, child support, pension, etc. Cash paid employees must bring a statement from their employer. This is required for all people living in the household.

If you have a medical card, but do not receive food stamps, you must bring proof of income.

3. Proof of residence: lease, mortgage, rent receipt, utility bill, etc.

Note: Children are not allowed in the facility during distribution--bring bags and boxes if you are receiving toys.

The Salvation Army – Winnebago County Launches 41st Annual Food for the Needy Drive

Rockford, IL – As many local families continue to struggle with having the basic necessities, The Salvation Army – Winnebago County is preparing to offer relief. The 41st Annual Food for the Needy Drive officially begins Monday, November 7th. “Our goal is to collect enough non-perishable food items to provide for the expected 3,000 families and individuals who will register for Christmas food assistance,” said Major Randy Hellstrom, Winnebago County Coordinator for The Salvation Army. “The donated food also sustains our food pantry over the remaining winter months,” added Hellstrom.

The Food for the Needy Drive will run through mid-December. Area businesses, churches, schools, and other organizations are invited to collect food for The Salvation Army. “ This is a very tangible way in which our community can help feed the hungry. We can only reach our goal through the generosity of others,” said Hellstrom. If anyone wishes to have a food barrel delivered to their location, they are asked to go to www.SalArmyWinnebago.org and download a brochure and form which gives information on how to request a barrel or call 815.997.6917.
