ROCKTON (WIFR) -- The Rockton mother accused of leaving her infant daughter to freeze to death on the side of the road was arraigned for the second time today. After four years, this case isn't going to trial anytime soon.

Today, Katie Stockton pleaded not guilty a second time, to first degree murder charges. Prosecutors say new information from expert witnesses prompted them to file a superseding bill of indictment. The new bill of indictment isn't that different from the first one except it specifies Stockton allegedly placed her child in plastic bags and clothes before leaving her in freezing cold temperatures.

Stockton cried in the courtroom today, the first time we've seen her show much emotion.
Stockton no longer faces the death penalty because Illinois law has changed since the case was filed. She will be back in court next month, for yet another status hearing.
Fortunately, attorneys will not have to go back to the beginning of the case. They are still in the discovery stages of litigation, which means they are still figuring out who they will call to testify at trial and what experts they will use. The new indictment is not a game changer.
