FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Illinois, a program of FHN Family Counseling Center, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the MetLife Foundation Volunteer Project Fund to support its mentoring program.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a national mentoring program which has been in existence in Stephenson and Jo Daviess counties for more than 40 years. This program provides one-to-one mentoring to youth ages 6-16 in both the site-based or community-based setting.
“Generous donations from MetLife and others give us the ability to provide vital services to the children and families we serve in our community,” said Beth Johnson, prevention and education supervisor at FHN Family Counseling Center.
The donation was made in recognition of the 10 local MetLife associates who volunteer their time through the year with the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. One such volunteer has been donating time since 1999 with the mentoring program. All volunteers make a difference in the life of the youth they mentor, and MetLife’s support plays a large role in our program’s success.
