ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (AP) -- A suburban Chicago man who was convicted of trying to run over a Chicago police officer in his car has been sentenced to 23 years in state prison.
The Daily Herald reports that 37-year-old Michael Cacini of Arlington Heights was sentenced this week.
Cacini was convicted by a jury in February of attempted murder and aggravated battery of a police officer.
During the trial, prosecutors contended that after police pulled Cacini over, he punched an officer, grabbed his vest and pulled him halfway into the car before letting go. As he drove off the vehicle caught the officer's shoulder and leg under a rear tire. Cacini then struck a second officer with his car.
