Animal Rights Activists Protest Walmart

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – You probably noticed quite the commotion outside a local Wal-mart today.

Animal rights activists brought an inflatable pig to protest outside the West Riverside store today. They claim Walmart’s pork suppliers are abusing pregnant pigs by forcing them to live in crates that are too small. Today’s demonstrators say they want to try and convince Walmart to require more humane treatment from their partners, a step that many other big box stores and restaurants have already taken.

“Nobody supports animal abuse and pigs are just as intelligent and friendly as the dogs and cats we all have at home and know and love,” said activist Jeni Haines.

Similar protests were held nationwide.
