ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Aldermen take the first steps to turn Rockford's only Frank Lloyd Wright home, the Kenneth Laurent House, from a private residence into a museum.

The home is currently owned by the Laurent House Foundation, but its located in a residential neighborhood. Rockford city council took a prelimianry vote Monday night to change the zoning on the property and grant a special use permit so the home can be turned into a museum. The home was built by archietct Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1950's for disabled veteren Kenneth Laurent and his wife Phyllis.

The Laurent House Foundation still needs to figure out parking for visitors before the permit is approved.
