Activists March in Downtown for Food Safety

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Many people worried about health problems hit the streets of Rockford Saturday, protesting a company they say makes a dangerous product.

The group is protesting the company Monsanto, which makes genetically modified organisms or GMO's. Marchers want to send a message to our lawmakers in Springfield, to pass a bill for clear and accurate labeling of foods with GMO's. They say GMO's not only hurt the environment, but can lead to health problems like cancer, allergic reactions, and weaken our immune systems.

"There's chemicals that are doused all over these produce and we need to make sure that every human understands how important it is that the food. That they're consuming is going to be a detriment to their health," March Against Monsanto organizer Melissa Francis, said.

Monsanto says their genetically modified products are completely safe.
