Unemployment in Rockford May Be Higher Than Numbers Show
A local economist says the jobless number is deceiving, and our local unemployment rate is between three and six percent higher.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Estimates show our economy shrank 2.6 % last year. This is the steepest drop since 19-46, and worse than the original prediction of a two-point-four percent drop.
Another thing that seems to be shrinking is Rockford's unemployment rate,which dropped to 14.8% last month.
While this seems like good news,a local economist says the number is deceiving, and our local jobless rate is actually between three and six percent higher.
" I think right now the unemployment rate, if you include those who have dropped out of the Labor Force, and those who are underemployed , you are probably talking about an unemployment rate in Rockford in the 17-20% range as opposed to the reported range of 14 percent."

Karen, thank you. I know they will because God will provide for me. Good things come to all those who wait. I know about struggling, believe me. But I never lose hope that God will provide a better opportunity for me in this lifetime. I, too, have many different skills and abilities in regards to working in clerical/administrative/medical/etc... I never lose hope that one day I will be freed from this extreme poverty. God will provide, for he always does.

Believe me, I know what it's like. I am the previous anonymous poster. I work one day a week. I live in a house. I make $80.00 every two weeks. I don't eat every day because I can't afford it. And, I also have my bills and I have had my utilities shut off numerous times. I could collect unemployment, but I choose not to unless it is a very last possible resort. I am not at that point in my life yet to say that unemployment is my very last possible resort.
