ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Violet Toscano, finally received her high school diploma today at age 98. She's been waiting since 1934, when she left Rockford Central High School to help take care of her family.
A very dedicated social worker helped make it happen. District 205's Superintendent Dr. Robert Willis presided over the ceremony. He says he was honored to be a part of the celebration.
"She still reads the newspaper every day. So this honorary diploma recognizes her significant accomplishment in terms of her commitment to life-long learning, and it's something she's always wanted: her high school diploma,” said Supt. Dr. Robert Willis.
Toscano’s family and friends were all on hand to help her celebrate.
