Searching For A Gunman

All is quiet in the area between 16th and 18th Avenue in Southwest Rockford but that wasn't the case earlier this afternoon.

It all started at about 1:15, that's when an officer reportedly pulled over a red Volkswagen for what police are calling a routine traffic stop. Deputy Chief Mike Booker says the driver had a handgun and pointed it at the police officer before taking off.

A search ensued and several streets in the area were closed off, no shots were ever fired, but street closings did cause some confusion.especially as kids were being released from school.

Transportation eventually had to get supervisors to walk the children home before buses were allowed in.

Again, no one is in custody at this time and police say they're searching for a Hispanic man about 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds.

He was wearing blue jeans and a white sweater.

why don't you people give more of a description of the car since that is what a normal person on the street or neighborhood would be able to see or watch out / look for to report any problems///// what about a vw - beetle/ passat/ jetta/ golf etc..... thanks!
