Rockford Crime

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- Rockford officials say new statistics show crime is down across the northern Illinois city.

Compared to last year, the city of about 155,000 people had 29 fewer sexual assaults, 17 fewer robberies and 325 fewer burglaries.

Officials credit the decline to crime-fighting strategies like more drug and curfew arrests. Officials say there's also better technology being used.

According to the police department's annual report, authorities upgraded technology for analyzing and predicting future crime.

Mayor Larry Morrissey says Rockford has had one of the highest crime rates in Illinois. But he says the decrease means the new approach is working.

You know what there is just as much crime that happens in Rockford that is not reported as that is. Rockford (at least the whole Westside) is one of the most grimey places in the USA and thats not a joke!

Crime is far from down. Epperson and Morrissey can fudge those stats all they want but the truth is in the headlines each and every day. The only thing that has changed with this administration is how they actually record stats. Last I knew, manipulating stats was a CRIME!

The mayor and Chet can say whatever they what about the crime in this city, but nothing is really changing. They can call a "drive by" vandalism if no one is hit, but it is still a shooting. They can a call a murder a death investagation but it is still a homicide. So I do not buy in to the mayor or his buddy chet's stats, when the woman who puts together those stats for the Rockford Police Dept. says that those numbers are funny. I think if some of the most respectable men and women of this community (i.e. police and Fire Fighters) do not have much good to say about them we should listen. I also hope that people remember we have heard this same thing before from the President when he said "Mission Accomplished".
