It was a long fall down the basement window of St. Mary's church.

"He took that one completely out, I just put it back so we're gonna fix it so it can't happen again," says St. Mary's employee and Township Supervisor Joe Musso.

Pecatonica Police say two people broke in and left lots of evidence behind. From what their muddy footprints show, their trail leads just to the front door.

"Nothing was missing, they did not break into the tabernacle which was wonderful," says St. Mary's Deacon Warren LaMont.

They might have though stolen money from three other Pecatonica churches that were broken into overnight.

"Nothing was disturbed except going straight to offices looking for safes and monies so this definitely everyone of these were connected somehow or done the same way," says Pecatonica Police Chief Ron Gwaltney.

Pecatonica Police started a special overnight surveillance two days ago because they heard about church break-ins happening in surrounding counties. So when a patrol officer saw this door open, he knew something wasn't right.

"He knew that door was secure because he had checked it, so he pulled in the parking lot to see two subjects coming out the back door," says Gwaltney.

One woman was arrested and a man got away. Both were unarmed.

"I just cannot believe people are that low to go after churches and people who volunteer and give back to the community," says Pecatonica Mayor Shawn Connors.

No parishioners were around when the burglaries happened. So no one was physically injured.

"It's nerve wrecking to know that as secure as our church is it was still broken into," says LaMont.

Police aren't releasing the woman's name at this time since she hasn't formally been charged. She's now in the Winnebago County jail, where she's being questioned by multiple Stateline agencies. Including detectives from Lee and Ogle counties. In the last few months, at least ten churches were burglarized in Lee County and seven in Ogle.

Pecatonica Police just announced they're looking for 30-year-old Brian Dees in connection to today's burglaries. If you see him, you're asked to contact the authorities.

How low can you get by robbing churches. Obviously, the culprit needs professional help.

Hopefully when they catch this trash they will put him away for good this time. He has been running the streets of Amboy and causing trouble there and in surrounding areas for how long now?? Way to long if you ask me. He has had a major addiction to drugs and beats women, this guy needs to be put away for good!!

If Lee County wouldn't have let him (Brian Dees) go on Drug Court for stealing a credit card, maybe he wouldn't be out robbing Churches again with his co-defendant from the last time he did this.
