Former Illini Football Player Heads to Trial

Derrick McPhearson and fellow Illinois wide receiver Jody Ellis were arrested on March Second after a minor traffic accident.

Police say they found laptop computers, digital music players and wallets in Ellis' car that were stolen from nearby apartments.

McPhearson and Ellis, who are both 21, have pleaded not-guilty.

McPhearson, who is from Hyattsville, Maryland, is charged with three burglary counts and two counts of theft. Ellis, who's from Evanston, is awaiting trial on four burglary charges and two theft counts.

McPhearson and Ellis were kicked off the football team.
