UPDATE: Two Serious Accidents, Drivers Walk Away
The drivers of two seperate accidents are lucky to walk away with minor injuries.

The first happened just before five this morning on Meridian road about one mile north of South Main street.

Police say a car struck a horse... you heard it right a horse! Rockford police say the horse went through the passenger's side of the windshield. the passenger of the vehicle was transported to Rockford Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The horse died on the scene. rockford police say they are now trying to locate the animal's owner.

Then a little after nine an elderly woman flipped her car onto its roof near Alpine and Highcrest. Police say the 85-year-old woman failed to yield while pulling onto Highcrest and was hit by another driver.

She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries the other driver wasn't hurt.
