By a near unanimous vote, the Winnebago School Board approved about a dozen moves which Superintendent Dr. Dennis Harezlak says will save District 323 about $400,000.
It appears that a few non-tenured positions won't be renewed for the 2010-2011 school year, and a handful of support staff positions are on the chopping block.
But the majority of savings would come from the reduction of hours for teachers including the reclassification of many from full time to part time status.
Winnebago High School senior, Kassandra Personett says, "Even if it was a matter of prices going up with the lunch, prices going up with the Ala carte lines. Drivers ed prices going up to save driver's ed, I think a lot of students would be willing to pay if they new what they were saving."
Meantime Karen Niemeier, a teacher at Winnebago High School says, "I think we need to cut back on our administrators. I think we are spending too much money on these positions and we could get along without these and keep teachers."
Harezlak said the door has been left open for possible cuts in April if needed.
