Winnebago County citizens interested in running for election to the Forest Preserve District's Board of commissioners can attend one of two informational meetings on Monday, March 22 or Wednesday, March 24. Both meetings are at 7:00 p.m. at forest preserve headquarters, 5500 Northrock Drive, in Rockford.
The election of the first-ever separate governing board will be on Nov. 2. There are seven positions to be filled, elected at large, non-partisan and unpaid for six-year terms. Prospective candidates must obtain 100 signatures to be on the ballot. The March meetings will include information about circulating petitions, the election timeline and background information about the Winnebago County Forest Preserve District, its operations and future plans.
