What would you do with $560 dollars?
"I could pay my rent with that," one stateline resident said.
That's how much money we won't have to spend next year if lawmakers pass the governor's newly introduced income tax increase proposal taking it from 3 to 4 percent to restore billions in education cuts.
A young couple is looking at couches at Gustafson's for their new house. The sales tax revenue from a purchase means more money for the state. But if spenders don't have that extra money, they may not buy anything.
"It further slows the economy when we take that money away from retail sales and the general economy," 23 News financial expert Brad Gummow said
The state is at a point called 'peak debt' where it can not handle any more debt and something had to be done like propose a tax increase. However, slowing retail sales would do the opposite of one of the governor's goals to increase sales tax revenues. Many said that $560 dollars could go along way like buying groceries or a piece of much needed furniture.
"A lot of people are struggling now with the economy and all the unemployment and to take that much away from their household could be terrible," Jinger Christal said.
A student herself... Christal could use that money for books. She is also one of many who supports education funding, but wishes there was another way besides the tax increase to offset the billions in cuts.

John, good question. If people would use their brains and do some research they would find that lottery money doesn't do nearly enough to pay for all the education needs in this state. Only 9.6% of the state's payment to education comes from lottery!!!!
Where is all the money from the lottery going? wasn't that supposed to pay for the schools?
