Mistaken Inmate Release

HOUSTON (AP) -- An inmate who was mistakenly released from a Texas prison is back behind bars after approaching his victim and apologizing for shooting him.

Willie Joe McAdams was sentenced to 40 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. But because of a clerical error, he was released in May after just four years.

His victim, Cedric Thomas, was stunned when McAdams approached him in a bar earlier this month. Thomas says McAdams shook his hand and apologized for shooting him in the head.

Thomas wonders what would have happened if McAdams "still had malice in his heart" and wanted to kill him.

The 2003 sports bar shooting left Thomas blind in one eye.

McAdams was re-arrested yesterday.

Authorities are investigating the mistaken release.
