Munchkins Honored

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Munchkins are finally getting their due.

The 124 little people who played the diminutive clan in 1939's "Wizard of Oz" are slated to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.

That's good news to Meinhardt Raabe. The 91-year-old Watertown native played the Munchkin coroner. You may remember his poetic confirmation of the Wicked Witch of the East's demise:

"As coroner, I must aver

I thoroughly examined her

And she's not only merely dead

She's really, most sincerely dead!"

The 4-foot-7 Raabe now lives in Florida, but he says he'll be at the star dedication ceremony. He holds two college degrees, but says the movie is still a huge part of his life and he never gets tired of Munchkin attention.
