CWA officials in Washington say that 85 percent of the rank and file voted in favor of the deal, which increases their wages and pensions preserves their health benefits and enhances job security.
A CWA spokeswoman says the contract is very good, and an SBC spokesman says the company is pleased with the ratification vote.
The agreement covers about 100,000 SBC workers who staged a four-day strike when months of negotiations stalled.
In Illinois, CWA covers only a small number of union workers at SBC, about 2,000 compared to thousands more represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
