Democrats out-raised Republicans. And that advantage was largely due to Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton. He raised $32 million dollars for the primary, while she raised more than $21 million.
Obama spent half of what he raised in the second quarter.
Clinton, meanwhile, spent 60 cents for every primary dollar raised. When you factor in the debt she accumulated in the quarter, her spending rate is about 64 cents per dollar.
Obama and Clinton ended the quarter with $34 million and $33 million in the bank, respectively.
