'Teens for Jeans' Helps Homeless
One out of every three homeless people in the U.S. are under the age of 18. That adds up to nearly two million homeless teenagers a year. And right now there's a similar situation in Haiti after that deadly earthquake. But a local project is helping homeless teens both here and in Haiti.

North Boone Middle School is just one out of hundreds of schools nationwide teaming up with clothing store Aeropostale to help the homeless.
It's called "Teens for Jeans." The third annual drive motivates students to donate their gently-used jeans to homeless teens. The schools then hands over the clothing to Aeropostale to be distributed to homeless shelters all over the country.
But this year's drive is a little different. Because of the 7.0 quake in Haiti, the first 100,000 pairs of jeans collected will be sent to support homeless teens in the devastated nation.
So far, North Boone has collected more than 400 pairs of jeans, almost reaching their goal of 500 pair.
Fundraiser organizers say the community came together for a great cause.
"Everyone wanted to get involved, from staff all over the district, to parents, to students, it's been really a big success," says North Boone English teacher Cari Weiffenbach.
There is still time to get your school involved, Aeropostale will continue collecting jeans through February 14th. For more information, visit www.dosomething.org/teensforjeans/home
Last year, more than 200,000 pairs of jeans were collected through the fundraiser for homeless teens nationwide.
