The Illinois Agricultural Statistics Service says the average height of corn has reached 32 inches already, growing 15 inches on average in the past week. That's more than twice as tall as last year's record crop was at this point and is 15 inches taller than the five-year average.
The weekly crop report says 79 percent of the corn is rated in good or excellent condition. Only four percent of the state's soybean acres remain to be planted. The report says 89 percent of the crop has emerged, compared to 74 percent at this time last year.
Sixty-eight percent of the soybeans in Illinois are rated good or excellent.
