With nearly 20 medical students ready to listen, Governor Pat Quinn announces 14.8 million dollars will be coming to the university.

"It's gonna be absolutely gorgeous," one student said.

The money will be used to pay for this partially constructed medical sciences building. It's funded by the Illinois "JOBS NOW" program, which is a capital improvement program that's aimed at reviving the state's ailing economy by creating and retaining jobs. This project is slated to create 150 construction jobs and 30 jobs at the university, 15 which are faculty.

“We are making a major investment here with this facility and it really is something important for the land of lincoln," Governor Quinn said.

It comes at time when job creation is crucial a city with the highest unemployment rate in the state.

"We need hope. We can't give up hope. We need to believe in people. Americans always come together in tough times. And I believe as Governor, the best source of strength are our people," Governor Quinn said.

The facility is a 60,000 square-foot building and it will house several colleges of medicine including a new pharmaceutical program. There will also be classrooms, labs, and a medical library here. University leaders say they have not received a check yet from the Governor's office. However, the university took out a loan with its parent university in Springfield to build this addition and they are planning to use the 14 million to pay them back. University leaders say they haven't heard a timeline yet of when they will get this money.

Students are expected to begin using the new building this fall.
