New Approach To A Common Surgical Procedure

A Freeport woman now says she considers herself lucky after a local surgical team performs a special procedure for the first time in the area.

Betty Stebbins was told this winter she had a brain tumor but what she didn't realize, major advancements made in the past ten years would make removing that tumor a lot easier.

It's a new surgery where tiny instruments are inserted through the nose and into the brain, making a more precise system for surgeons to navigate their way around.

Other benefits of the procedure, minimal pain, fewer complications, and patients have shorter hospital stays.

It was conducted by a surgical team at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
