Supreme Court Decisions

The US Supreme Court hands down 3 major decisions today, one of them limits what our kids can display at school. The court is tightening restrictions on student speech saying that schools can prohibit expression that is interpreted as promoting drug use.

The ruling comes after a teen from Alaska displayed a banner reading Bong Hits For Jesus during a school field trip. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also says ordinary taxpayers like us, can't challenge a White House initiative to help religious charities get federal money.

The ruling blocks a lawsuit by a group of atheists against 8 bush administration officials.

Closer to home, a victory for Wisconsin's anti-abortion group, Right To Life.

The supreme court eases restrictions on TV ads that are paid for by corporations and unions airing close to election time. The court says the current law limits free speech. This comes after the group was not allowed to air ads during the final 2 months before the 2004 elections.

What does 'Bong Hits For Jesus' mean? "religious charities get federal money." do they also get tax free status on their business activities as in Oz? "a victory for Wisconsin's anti-abortion group, Right To Life." What was the Victory? over sanity?

How pathetic is this? Al Gore is correct. We truly live in a time devoid of reason and logic given that the "Bong Hits for Jesus" aspect gets top billing . How in the world can the Supreme Court allow the White House to conduct an "initiative" to help religious charities get federal monies? At the very least this is a very dangerous precedent. The ruling stated that the funds were discretionary in nature. Unless the boys and girls in the West Wing are utilizing their own cash something is wrong with this picture. Nevertheless, at least after all Bush hasn't done for the dirty 30% that still supports him he should at least act like he cares. Let's review: a. No constitutional amendment banning Gay Marraige. b. Roe Vs. Wade=still the law of the land, c. And all the immigrants are getting amnesty. Actually, reviewing all that Bush has done if I were religious I would be a tad concerned that GDum is messing around with religion. Way to go Decider! Let's erode our rights a little more each day.
