SEATTLE (AP) -- An 8-year-old girl who was shot at her elementary school in Washington state is in critical condition.
Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg says the third-grade girl is undergoing surgery Wednesday afternoon. She says doctors are assessing the extent of her injury.
The Bremerton Schools superintendent's office has said the girl was shot in the abdomen. Authorities say a third-grade boy was being questioned and a firearm was found in a classroom.
The girl was airlifted to the Seattle hospital from Bremerton. Bremerton is 20 miles west of Seattle, across Puget Sound.
Police officers and emergency crews responded to a call of a shooting at Armin Jahr Elementary around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No other details about the shooting were immediately available.

I'm all for conceal carry, however, gun owners have to be responsible. This young boy should not have had access to a loaded pistol. If it is determined that the gun came from inside his home, the parents should be punished accordingly. Thoughts and prayers go out to both families, as I'm sure this is equally devastating.
