The man accused of planting pipe bombs in Midwest mailboxes earlier this year is apparently planning to plead insanity.

Luke Helder's attorney told an Iowa court that she plans to make that argument at Helder's scheduled November trial. Helder is the 21-year-old Minnesota student who allegedly put bombs in 18 mailboxes in five states.

The bombs injured seven people and stopped mail delivery in parts of the region for several days.

Friends of Helder say they've noticed profound changes in his mental state in recent years. Helder admitted to the bombings after his arrest in Nevada.
