About 20 volunteers braved the snow this morning to help wrap toys for children. Specifically, kids who's parents are locked up in the Winnebago County Jail and are unable to do the job themselves. Dozens of families are expected to benefit from today's event. Volunteers say they'll do anything to help make a child's Christmas that much merrier.
"A lot of the prisoners when we went in there were so grateful because they are very sad that they won't be home for Christmas. It's our way of just helping them a little bit to let them know they do have a connection with their kids," says Major Kathy Hellstrom with the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is always looking for volunteers to help with its programs. If you would like to donate your time contact the Salvation Army.
