Marine reservist James Kidd was just getting back into the swing off things after being deployed with Rock Island's 4th Maintenance Battalion, but now this weekend warrior is preparing to pack his bags again for a lengthy mission to Iraq.

"I have to leave my job again and I'm not looking forward to that. Because when you work in law enforcement you leave your team and I don't like leaving people short," said Kidd.

The Winnebago County corrections officer will have to leave his post for a year to 18 months.

"They just look at me and sigh and say again. There's not much you can do," said Kidd.

While Kidd's personal life and job are put on hold so is one of his biggest dreams. Kidd planned to kick off his campaign for Winnebago County Sheriff in the coming months, but now he could be in Iraq through late 2005

"Just like any good marine you have to overcome obstacles. It's just another obstacle for me to overcome. If I don't make it back in time for the election in 2006, there's always 2010," said Kidd.

As campaign season for the 2006 election approaches Kidd says he'll consider his options, but the reservists says he never thought he'd have to make so many tough choices when he signed up for duty.

"Times change and you have to do what you're told and I think it's a wonderful opportunity to serve my country," said Kidd.

Kidd will head off to Iraq in June, just days after his brother is deployed to the same battle zone.
