The Machesney Park Mall will soon be knocked down paving the way for a much improved gathering place.
In the past few years, the mall has not exactly attracted the crowds but that may soon change. The plan is to tear down the center court in July to build new retail, condos, an assisted living center, and a community park.
The JC Penney outlet store and Bergner's will stay. Local leaders say it's a development like no other in our area.
Rubloff Development is funding much of the project, it's expected to announce more details next month. Public funding and grants will also be used to pay for the project.
