Rockford Woman Finds Father Through Facebook After 20 Years
On this Thanksgiving day most of us are taking the time to remember what we're thankful for and for one Rockford woman, that's family; family she hasn't seen in 20 years. And thanks to a popular social networking site, a daughter and her father are finally reuniting.

"Hi daddy, it's Ciera."

Those are the first words Ciera Gatling ever remembers saying to her father. That's because he left when she was just three months old. Ciera says she doesn't have any memories of her dad, not even a picture.

"Secretly, I was really angry at my biological dad for not being there, I never knew why. I thought for a while that i had done something wrong," Ciera says.

But still, Ciera says she never gave up on trying to find her father. She's been searching for him for six years.

"I didn't know where he lived or anything but his name," Ciera says.

That is until a couple of weeks ago, when Ciera got a message on Facebook from a woman claiming to be her aunt.

"I never heard of her or anything, so I called my mom and said 'Mom, does my dad have a sister named Tracy?' and there was a 30 second pause and she said 'yeah. that's your Aunt Tracy'"."

Finding family and friends on Facebook is just a few keystrokes away. You simply type the person's first and last name in the search window and click for results.

A click was all it took for Ciera to finally find her dad, who now lives in Delaware. An emotional reunion 20 years in the making.

"Butterflies and my heart started beating fast and i got real nervous," Ciera said.

When Ciera's dad, Walter Gatling, picked up the phone when his daughter called, he said, "My jaw dropped down, and I was ecstatic. There's not a day that i wake up and don't think about her."

Both Ciera and her dad say they can't believe a computer brought them together.

"I had no idea that i would ever actually be able to communicate or find my daughter. I praise the people that decided to create Facebook," Walter says.

And Ciera says, "Going on Facebook is now more of an obsession than it was before."

An obsession that Ciera and her father are logging on to every day to keep them connected and up to speed in each others' lives.

Well I found out that I had a sister named Ciera Gatling on Facebook too. Unfourtunately this story does not have a happy ending. Our "dad" Walter Gatling has nothing to do with either one of us. He has excluded us from his will and does nothing to support us. I am thankful that I found my sister but I am not happy our dad does not love us like he is supposed to.

Actually, he was looking for me. for 6 years. He was not a deadbeat dad, and there is more to the story than showed in the interview. u cant really judge him or me, because all u know is what was on the interview!

Really? Is it me or is this story just not that heart-warming? It reads like any of the other deadbeat dad stories we read daily in the news. She even had to look for HIM, he was taking no steps to find her, for crying out loud!
