Police are investigating the discovery of a body in the basement of an Elizabeth man's home and the remains of the 67-year-old man's mother.
Ten years ago Mary Albaum died of natural causes. Her body was donated to science but her son Ben Belden claimed the body when university officials were through. That body apparently has been in Belden's basement ever since.
Police came to a secluded tree covered home south of Elizabeth on Friday morning to evict Ben Belden because he hadn't paid his taxes in years.
Authorities found more than they expected, the body of his mother in the basement. The discovery is the talk of the town in Elizabeth Wednesday.
There are conflicting reports as to whether the property is zoned as a cemetery. Authorities are still investigating to determine if any charges will be filed.
