"Never, ever be afraid to approach somebody you have a lot of respect for," says Stephanie Dawkins from Business and Professional Foundation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more women work than men. But, you still don't see many sitting in the corner office. Experts say its women networking skills that hinders them from moving-up in a company. They suggest women be more aggressive in seeking contacts in positions above their own, and communicate directly about what they want. Women often learn about new job opportunities differently from men, so being a step ahead is important.

Dr. Lisa Torres says, "For men, they'd get a tap on the shoulder. someone would come up to them and say, hey I've heard about this opening in that organization or someone where else. For women that happened less often. They would find their next job through formal channels."

Experts say building a large professional network doesn't guarantee job opportunities, but its a good start.
